Robinson's Island gets hiking, biking trails

Parks Canada is converting an old campground on P.E.I.'s North Shore into a hiking and biking trail.

Campground on national park island closed about 10 years ago

Parks Canada is converting an old campground on P.E.I.'s North Shore into a hiking and biking trail.

About six kilometres of trail are currently under construction at Robinsons Island. The campground there closed almost 10 years ago, and Parks Canada has removed all the buildings associated with it.

The trail will be for people of all fitness levels, while obstacles have been created for mountain bikers looking for a challenge.

"We anticipate that it'll be popular with Islanders as well as visitors," said Parks Canada spokeswoman Barb MacDonald.

"It'll provide an opportunity for families to come and maybe spend an afternoon, morning or evening cycling, walking, exploring and really enjoying a unique part of P.E.I."

The new trails are currently under construction, with gravel being added next week. Parks Canada hopes to open the trails in early July.
