Sharon E. McKay wins two book awards

P.E.I. author Sharon E. McKay won two book awards this week for children's literature.

The End of the Line, Prison Boy win in children's literature category

P.E.I. author Sharon E. McKay won two book awards this week for children's literature.

On Friday, she won the Hackmatack award in the English fiction category for The End of the Line.

On Wednesday, she won the Ann Connor Brimer Award for Children's Literature at the Atlantic Book Awards for Prison Boy.

The awards were announced at ceremonies in Moncton.

The End of the Line tells the story of Beatrix, a five-year-old Jewish girl who is taken in by strangers after her mother is dragged off an Amsterdam train by a Nazi official.

Prison Boy is the story of a young orphan boy in an unnamed country who goes through terrible trials on behalf of a young friend.

Both books are published by Annick Press.

McKay is the author of a number of novels for children and young adults, many of which focus on the hardships afflicting children around the world.
