Stanhope campground delaying opening until July 13

One of the two campgrounds atthe Prince Edward Island National Park won't be opening until July 13, this year. That's about a month later than usual.

Parks Canada officials saidthe late opening of the Stanhope Campground is due to major renovations that were delayed because of the severe winter weather.

The $1 million worth ofimprovements includeupgrading campsites,construction of a new playground, and upgrades to the camper registration area, roads and washrooms.

The work was scheduled tobe complete in time for the 2015 camping season. That usually starts in early June.

Parks Canadasaideven when the campground does open on July 13,visitors can expect that some campsites at Stanhope will be periodically unavailable for use during the operating season as renovations continue.

Campers are being encouraged to check the reservation service because sites will become available as work is completed.

Parks Canada saidefforts will be made to minimize disruptions to campers.
