Tuition on the rise at Holland College

Students attending Holland College will pay more for tuition this fall.

Students attending Holland College willpay more for tuition this fall.

Tuition fees willgo up by between $200 and $250 annually, depending on the program.

This comes as the provincial funding to the college was cut by three per cent.

Michael O'Grady, vice president of innovation, enterprise and strategic development at Holland College, said the provincial cut isn't the only reason for the increase.

"We haven't had an increase in a long time and the annual rate of inflation at this point is about 2.9 per cent so effectively three per cent," O'Grady said.

"It was considered to be an appropriate time and an appropriate response in combination with other measures to raise tuition."

Last week, the college announced thesuspension of two programsand eight jobs to compensate for a $1.5 million shortfall.
