UPEI increasing parking by 60 spots

UPEI hopes that expanding a parking lot by 60 spaces will help ease some of the difficulties for drivers in the fall.

UPEI is hoping a parking lot expansion will ease some of the pressure for parking spaces.

The university says a new parking lot to be constructed this summer on the east side of the Atlantic Veterinary College and will add about 60 new spaces for permit holders.

"This will help our parking during the peak times, which is normally in the fall," said Greg Clayton, UPEI's director of facilities management. "The first of the fall semester we usually have some times when parking is tight on campus so this additional parking will help with that."

Construction of the new parking lot is expectedto cost $100,000.

Parking spots can be hard to find during peak times on campus.
Finding a parking space has often been a frustrating experience for UPEI students even those with parking permits.

The campus lost 100 parking spots two years ago, when it broke ground on its new engineering school.

This fall, the university said it will also introduce dedicated carpool parking spaces, to encourage students and staff to carpool.
