Forget about drinking wine, sharing hors-d'oeuvres and dishing over Christian Grey. UPEI's new book club is all about business. Literally.

Forget about drinking wine, sharing hors-d'oeuvres and dishing over Christian Grey. UPEI's new book club is all about business.

Susan Graham, who teaches in the executive MBA program, has been wanting to create a book club for a few years.

She's been looking for a reason toget people together talk about business books, and the opportunity came when the universitychallenged faculty to reach beyond the campus and create ways to involvethe community.

"We're encouraging anybody, whether they're a former UPEI business student, a current UPEI business student, or just a member of the public who happens to like to read these type of books, to come and join us," said Graham.

"There's no studying for an exam, there's no papers to write,it's just going to be a great discussion about really great books."

Graham said the books are not required reading for students. Instead, the reading list for thisyear was decided after input from the members of the faculty.

"We narrowed it down to books that we felt covered a broad spectrum of topics, and were highly approachable by people that maybe don't have a business background in terms of academic background," Graham said.

"We don't know how many students are going to be at this event, we certainly have extended the invitation to our graduate and undergraduate students here in the school of business."

EMBABook Club picks:

  • Feb. 2, 2016: The Purple Cow by Seth Godin.
  • April 5, 2016: The No Asshole Rule by R I Sutton.

Graham said the books also cover people involved in various aspects of business and at different points in their careers.
