New volunteers are needed to become a part of the Citizens on Patrol program in Cornwall, P.E.I.

Deputy mayor Gary Ramsay said when a person becomes involved, they would drive around on weekends looking for suspicious activity.

If they see anything or have any concerns, they would alert the RCMP.

"It's just the time of year. We're looking for some new members, because we've lost a few members...because they've moved away, plus the summertime, it's a little bit busier with people on vacations and stuff like that," said Ramsay.

"So, we're looking to increase our numbers....it's just they're an extra set of eyes and ears for the RCMP."

Ramsay said they are hoping to double the number of volunteers from the 10 they have now.

Volunteers have to be 18-years-old and undergo a criminal record check.

Those interested in signing up to be a Citizen on Patrol can contact Cornwall's town hall.
