Man faces multiple charges following vehicle sale altercation

A vehicle sale gone wrong in Winsloe has a Charlottetown man facing charges of possession of a weapon dangerous to the public and assaulting a police officer.

Police responded to a call from Winsloe at about 4p.m. Monday, where the complainant had a vehicle for sale.

"It somehow escalated to the point where the person who had bought the vehicle pulled a knife and ended up threatening the gentleman who had sold him the vehicle," Deputy Chief Gary McGuigan told CBC News.

Police officer spat on

The accused had left by the time police arrived, but police tracked down a 40-year-old in Charlottetown.

McGuigan said the man spat in the face of a police officer during the arrest, and officers responded with pepper spray.The man was taken to hospital for treatment.

Richard Robert Hannell, 40, has been charged with assault, possessing a weapon dangerous to the public, assaulting a police officer, uttering threats, and failing to comply with an undertaking.

No one was injured during the initial incident or the arrest.

Hannell appeared in court on the charges Tuesday morning.
