1,700 eggs for breakfast: Enough to feed an army

A field kitchen that supports 850 Canadian Forces soldiers who have joined the forest fire battle in Saskatchewan is burning through a lot of food.

Here is what the logistics team works with for a regular breakfast:

• 1,700 eggs.
• 45 kilograms of hash browns.
• 25 kilograms of sausages.
• 50 litres of baked beans.
• Assorted fruits, breads, cereals.

In addition to the hot breakfast, troops have packaged rations for lunch and another hot meal at dinner time.

As of Wednesday, there were 218 fires burning in Saskatchewan's north, covering nearly 5,000 square kilometres.

Including the military, there are over 1,500 fire fighters working to contain the fires and protect communities and property.

Officials said they were able to confirm that 93 structures, mostly cabins, have been lost due to fires.
