6 teens die in crash near Lloydminster, Sask.

Six teenagers have died in a collision between a semi-tanker truckand car six kilometres southeast of Lloydminster, Sask.

RCMP say three males and three females were killed in the crash early Saturday morning. The ages of the victims range between 13 to17 and they were all inthe same vehicle.

The Mounties had said earlier they believed seven peopleperished, but they revised that number later on Saturday.

One person was taken to hospital but died shortly afterwards. The other victims were pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the semi was taken to hospital with undetermined injuries.

RCMP Cpl. Rob King said thenames of the victims or where they are from won't be released without permission from their parents. However, hebelievesthey were all from Saskatchewan.

"From what we can tell right now, all of the victims were in the car," King saidat a news conference in Regina.

"There was one person outside the car when members arrived and that's the person that was taken to hospital and then died later from his injuries."

King said at the time of the collisionthe tanker was hauling crude oil north on a rural road and the car was heading east on Township Road 490.

It still isn't clear what happened. King said there is a stop sign at the intersection, which is where a dirt road meets a two-lane road.

Police initially reportedthat one passenger had died in the crash. In a subsequent release Saturday afternoon they said they were originally told at 4:20 a.m. MT that atruck had rolled over on Township Road 490, just south of the city.

When they arrived, they realized another vehicle had ended up submerged in a slough.

The roads around the area were blocked off all morning.

A collision reconstruction expert was on the scene trying to determine what happened.

King said it isn't known if alcohol was a factor in the crash. Police are also determining whether the victims were wearing seatbelts.
