8 injured in Saskatoon-area crashes

Two crashes at a dangerous intersection near Saskatoon have sent eight people to hospital on the weekend.

Two crashes at a dangerous intersection near Saskatoon have sent eight people to hospital on the weekend.

It happened at the corner of Highway 11 and Wanuskewin Road just north of the city, the same corner where a deadly crash happened last spring.

In the first incident on the weekend, there was a high-speed crash between a car and a mini-van Saturday afternoon.

A woman, 27, in the car was trapped and had to be extricated by the Saskatoon fire department.

Another woman, 34, and a nine-year-old girl, in the mini-van were also injured. All three were taken to hospital.

The second crash happened Sunday afternoon. Five people were injured, including a woman, 65, two men, ages 37 and 75, and two girls, ages 16 and 14.

It's the same place where Daniel Boutin was involved in a crash on June 20, 2011.

"We were coming through and a car tried to race us," he said. "It was rush hour and he didn't make it through. He hit us on the side and I lost my mother-in-law over it."

Boutin said he'd like to see an overpass built there.

"I just hope something gets done because it's terrible," Boutin said. "It's very dangerous."
