Masters competition in Regina shows you're never too old for athletics, Dean Gutheil reports.

At an age when many people just want to slow down, a group of older athletesaremoving at impressive rates.

You have to be at least 30 years old to compete inthe Canadian Masters Track and FieldChampionships, nowonin Regina. Many of the entrants arewell past that age.

Dave Kalles, 75,entered the10 kilometre race that's 25 times around the track.

"It's still fun," Kalles said Friday. "And I can still do it.I'm in that use it or lose it category."

Kalles took up competitive running 15 years ago, when he was a mere 60 years old.

Olga Kotelko, 94, is one to watch at the Masters Competition in Regina. (CBC)

One athlete to watch out for is 94-year-old Olga Kotelko.

She runs, throws, and jumps in a variety of events and holds numerous world records for her age group.

"I felt that I would like to be a young at heart athlete rather than an old woman," Kotelko said.

The track and field competition runs through the weekend at Douglas Park in Regina.
