Alleged baby-biter escapes from Mounties

A Saskatchewan man accused of biting and choking a baby is back behind bars after a short-lived escape from RCMP custody.

It happened Thursday morning in Fort Qu'Appelle, about 74 kilometres northeast of Regina.

The 23-year-old man from Muscowpetung First Nation had made a brief court appearance and was being escorted back to RCMP cells when he ran out of the building as the overhead doors were closing.

According to police, the man led officers on a foot chase for about three blocks before being cornered in a lot next to an industrial business.

He was caught trying to hide in the cab of a parked truck and was taken back into custody without further incident, the RCMP said.

Last month he was charged with assault and other offences in connection with incidents alleged to have happened in July.

Among the allegations is that he assaulted his infant son on two separate occasionsone time where the child was choked and another where the child was bitten on the face.

It's also alleged he sexually assaulted hisspouse.
