It wasn't your average Monday on Earth for some Regina students.

Astronaut Jeremy Hansen from the Canadian Space Agency was in town to give a motivational speech.

Hansen was sharing his experiences with high school students from Scott and Thom collegiates.

If I have a chance I will take it. Who doesn't want to go to space?- Nathaniel Cruz, grade 12 student

The astronaut is in training to go to the International Space Station, which he calls "school in space."

"They are up there right now trying to discover new things that we think will improve life on earth and it's kind of exciting to be part of that," he said.

There are currently six astronauts at the space station.

Right now Hansen works at mission control and says it's really interesting.

Besides discussing the joys of being an astronaut, Hansen was talking to the students about the importance of setting goals and believing in yourself.

Cruz said he learned valuable lessons in the speech as well.

"Never let anyone stop you from doing what you want to do in life," he said.
