Crime going down in Regina over 10-year period: Report

Regina police say the total number of crimes reported in the city has gone down over the past 10 years.

The latest report from the Board of Police Commissioners details a 32 percent decrease since 2005.

Troy Hagen, chief of the Regina Police Service, saidhe wasencouraged bythese numbers, especially in light of how Regina is changing.

"That's not taking into account the population growth," Hagen said. "I would suggest that's very positive."

However, the total number for crimes against persons went up 3.3 per cent over the 2013 number.

Hagen said it's important to keep in mind that crime statistics change on an annual basis and a 10-year report is a better representation of crime in the city.

"It's those longer-term trends that really do paint the picture," Hagen said.
