Sask. harvest barely advances thanks to rain, snow

Recent rain and snow has brought the Saskatchewan harvest to a virtual standstill, with only 81 per cent combined,according to the province's weeklycrop report.

Compared to the five-year average for this time of year 93 per cent the harvest is well behind schedule.

That's bad news when the fields are wet and themild days remaining in 2016may be few and far between.

Much of the grainbelt has received twice the usual amount of rain this year, according to Agriculture Canada.

Last week's crop report indicated the harvest was 80 per cent complete, so little progress has beenmade since.

The southeast is doing better than other areas, witharound 89 per cent of the crop in the bin.

On the other hand, the east and west central areas are as low as 73 per cent.
