Judicial recount to be held in Desneth-Missinippi-Churchill River

A judicial recount will be held in the Saskatchewan electoral district of Desneth-Missinippi-Churchill River a riding in which the NDP beat the Liberals by 71 votes.

A judicial recount will be held in the Saskatchewan electoral district ofDesneth-Missinippi-ChurchillRivera riding in which the NDP beat the Liberals by 71 votes.

After the lead went back and forth a few times on election night, Oct. 19, the NDP, represented byGeorgina Jolibois,edgedout the Liberalcandidate Lawrence Joseph.

Jolibois received 10,300 votes and Joseph received 10,229.

The recount, which will be overseen by a Queen's Bench judge,will be held on Nov. 2.

It was announcedbychief electoral officer Marc Mayrand after Josephrequested it.

Recount ordered in Regina-Lewvan, too

This means there are now two Saskatchewan ridings in which a judicial recount has been ordered.

The recount in Regina-Lewvan, where the NDP'sErin Weir beat the Conservative Party's Trent Fraserby 132 votes, began Thursday morning.

The results of the recounts will be published on the Elections Canada website after they arecompleted.

Elections Canada is an independent body set up by Parliament.
