25-year-old man killed in crash on Highway 1 near Whitewood, Sask.

A 25-year-old man is dead following a serious crash on Highway 1 near Whitewood, Sask.

RCMP said the fatal crash happened at about 6:30 a.m. CST at the intersection where the roadway connects with Highway 9 near the town. Whitewood is about 176 kilometres east of Regina.

Police said a southbound truck entered the intersection and was hit by a westbound tractor trailer.

Police continue to investigate the crash. They have not released the name of the victim.

Drivers on the highway are being diverted on the eastbound lane.

As of 11:30 a.m., RCMP expect traffic to be restricted for at least four to five hours.
