John Robert Strang of McLean, Sask., area charged with murder

Saskatchewan RCMP have charged John Robert Strang with with first-degree murder in the death of Lisa Strang, the McLean-area woman he had been in a relationship with.

SaskatchewanRCMPhave charged John RobertStrangwith first-degree murder in the death of LisaStrang, theMcLean-areawoman he had been in a relationship with.

Strang, 48, was arrested shortly after midnight on Monday.

That happened after an off-dutyRCMPmember spotted a 2013Jeep he was believed to be driving heading north on Highway 29 toward the Battlefords.

OtherRCMPofficers arrived and took him into custody.

AfterStrangwas arrested, he was taken to hospital in Battleford for treatment of minor injuries that occurred before his contact with police, theRCMPsaid.

After being treated and released, he was put back inRCMPcustody.

Strangwas scheduled to appear before a justice of the peace in North Battleford Monday. He'll be kept in custody until his next court appearance in Regina provincial court.

LisaStrang, 47, was found dead in herMcLean-areahome on Saturday.The man accused of her murder had been living in the same house.

LisaStrangworked for the Saskatchewan Party.In fact, she was its longest-serving employee, having worked for the party for 11 years.

"Lisa was a dear and trusted colleague and valued member of our team and we will miss her tremendously." said party executive directorPatrick Bundrock.

Police haven't said anything about the cause of death.
