Lilly Daniels, a powwow powerhouse, dies at 80

Elder Lilly Daniels of the Kawacatoose First Nation, who shared her love of powwow dancing with many in Regina, has died.

Elder Lilly Daniels of the Kawacatoose First Nation, who shared her love of powwow dancing with manyin Regina, has died.

She was 80.

Daniels is well known in Regina for her work improving the lives of aboriginal women.

She helped establish the first daycare centre for the Regina Native Women's Association.

She was also active in teaching powwow dance and supporting youth throughout Regina. She createdthe Rainbow Fancy Dancers in the early 1980s.

A service for her is planned for this Friday in Regina.The location is still to be determined.
