80 km/h signs being installed along crash zone east of Regina

Signs are going upto reduce the speed limit at a crash-prone section of the Trans-Canada Highway east of Regina.

The speed limit will be 80 kilometres per hour along the highway, also known as Highway 1, between Regina and Balgonie.

Currently,the speed limit varies between90and110 km/hat different points along the 20-kilometre stretch.

That sectionof highway has been the scene of several crashes over the years, and residents have been calling for more safety measures,like traffic lights.

Bypasses to White City and Balgoniedesigned to make the highway saferare being built but aren't scheduled to be open to traffic for two years.

The reduced speeds will take effect before the end of the week, the highways ministry says.

The speed limit has also been reduced to 80 km/hr on Highway 46 at Pilot Butte. The speed reduction (down from 100 km/h)begins 500 metres west of the Pilot Butte access and ends 500 metres east of Butte Street.
