More than 100 cellphone users ticketed last month

Police in the province issued 108 tickets to drivers using cellphones last month, Saskatchewan Government Insurance says.

Police around Saskatchewan gave out 108 tickets to drivers using cellphones last month.

Police in the provinceissued 108 tickets to drivers using cellphones last month, Saskatchewan Government Insurance says.

That's in addition to178 otherdistracted-driving violations, 301 impaired driving-related offences,414 seatbelt or car seat violations.

The biggest numbers of all were racked up by drivers who were speeding or aggressively driving:5,427 tickets.

Meanwhile, as part of a special focus on infractions related to pedestrians, bicyclists and motorcycle safety, police issued 14 other tickets.

They included:

  • 8 tickets for drivers failing to yield or stop for pedestrians, or changing lanes when unsafe.
  • 5 tickets for pedestrians disobeying crosswalk signals or walking into the path of a vehicle.
  • 1 ticket for a motorcyclist failing to wear a helmet.
