Photo radar unveiled for construction zones

Drivers passing through highway construction zones in Saskatchewan may now find themselves on camera.

Drivers passing through highway construction zones in Saskatchewanmay now find themselves on camera.

The province has started using photo radar to catch speeders in highway construction zones.

The move to improve safety comes after a flag person was struck and killed in August 2012.

Three of the mobile radar devices will be deployed across Saskatchewan.

Photos will be taken of vehicles going faster than 60 kilometres an hour and then sent to the RCMP, who can review the photos and data collected and determine if they willissue tickets.

The camera can take clear images of vehicles even if they are up to 150 metres away.

The base fine for speeding in a construction zone has also increased, from $140 to $210.
