Police plane tracks stolen van after chase in Saskatoon

Saskatoon Police have arrested two people after a high-speed chase early Sunday morning.

According to a police news release, patrol officers tried to stop a van on 20th Street, near Ave. W around 2:40 a.m. CST.

Police said the driver stepped on the gas and attempted to evade police, but officers in a cruiser kept the vehicle in sight until a police plane was above it.

The plane, equipped with an infrared camera, watched the vehicle as it sped around the city, allegedly sideswiping a vehicle on 22nd Street at Whitney.

The van was eventually abandoned on Milton Street, just east of Confederation Drive.

A K9 Unit was deployed and the two people whoran from the vehicle were quickly found hiding nearby. Both allegedly resisted police instructions and had to be treated for dog bites.

A 28-year-old man and a 19-year-old woman, both from North Battleford, are nowfacing multiple charges, including possession of stolen property, evading policeand dangerous driving.

The man also had several unrelated warrants for his arrest.
