Recount ended for Regina-Lewvan, NDP win stands

In what may be called a case of never mind, a formal recount for the Regina-Lewvan riding has ended after officials said the request to check the ballots was withdrawn. The move affirms the NDP win in the riding for the federal election.

No change in vote results, officials say

It what may be called a case of never mind, a formal recount for the Regina-Lewvan riding has ended after officials said the request to check the ballots was withdrawn. The move affirms the NDP win in the riding for the federal election.

Erin Weir won the riding by a margin of 132 votes over Conservative candidate Trent Fraser.

On the night of the election, Fraser was beaten by theNDP'sWeir by 143 votes. A recount then found the difference was 132, and that's whenFraser asked for the recount.

Officials said Friday that a previous request for a judicial recount had been "terminated following a request for withdrawal by the candidate who requested the recount."

Officials said the request was made, and accepted, by a judge in Regina lastFriday.

"The termination of these proceedings does not affect the results for the electoral district of ReginaLewvan, validated before the recount began," officials said.

They provided the following results for all candidates in the electoral district:

  • Erin Weir, NDP: 16,843
  • Trent Fraser, Conservative: 16,711
  • Louis Browne, Liberal: 13,143
  • Tamela Friesen, Green: 839
  • Wojciech Dolata: Libertarian: 298
