Regina celebrates National Indigenous Peoples Day at Victoria Park

The sun was shining and the music was abundant at National Indigenous Peoples Daycelebrations in Regina's downtown Victoria Park on Thursday.

Events featured performers likeMetisjiggers andpowwow dancers, along with local rappers, storytellersand spoken word poets.

The day began with a pipe ceremony and was followed by a grand entry of powwow dancers.

Several teepees were filled with arts and crafts and there wasfree cake, bannock and water for people to enjoywhile they watched the entertainment.

Nick Crighton,one of the organizers, said thecelebration is not only intended for Indigenous Peoples, but rather is an opportunity for others to learn about the cultures.

"More than anything, what we encourage for National Indigenous Peoples Day is having all people come out and check out the cultural displays,"saidCrighton.

"Alot of cool opportunities for the family to come out and enjoy."
