A Regina police officer was been fired on Monday for conduct described as unsuitable for the police service.

In December 2012, Const. Robert Power was charged with assaulting a man being taken into police custody. The 40-year-old Power was suspended with pay.

After a lengthy review, Regina police Chief Troy Hagen decided to fire Power.

Power, who was a police officer for five years, has 30 days to appeal his dismissal. He'll be in court on the assault charge in June.
