Regina police charge man for driving 183 km/h in construction zone

A 26-year-old Regina man is facing a charge of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle after allegedly driving 183 km/h througha construction zone.

Regina police said that last Sunday, traffic officers were looking out for speeders onthe Ring Road on asectionunder construction wherethere wereworkers present at the time.

Around 8:30 p.m. CST, they heard an engine roar from the north lanesand saw a maroon Nissan speeding.

According topolice,one officer used laser equipment to record the vehicle's speed, which was believed to be183 km/h, or around 51metres per second. That's triple the speed limit in a construction zone.

Officers did not stop the driver because they couldn't get into the northbound lanes and no other police were present.

On Friday, police announced a man hadbeen charged with one count ofdangerous operation of motor vehicle in connection to the incident.

The vehicle he was allegedly driving, a Nissan 350-Z, has also been impounded.

The accused is due in provincial court on July 27 at 9:30 a.m.
