Minimum wage earners in Saskatchewan will get a raise this fall when the hourly rate increasesby 22 cents to $10.72 from $10.50.

The government decides once a year whether to index it to inflation and announces its decision by June 30, to take effect Oct. 1.

It says it is adjusting for the cost of living this year to ensure workers don't fall behind those in other provinces.

Minimum wage earners in Manitoba earn $11an hour and in Alberta it's $11.20 but the provincial government there has promised to raise it to $15 an hour by 2018.

Saskatchewan's government says when you factor in its personal tax exemptions and credits, low-income earners in this province have the fourth-highest disposable income in the country.

More than 23,000 people make the minimum wage in Saskatchewan.
