Sask. Ukrainian community, Ken Krawetz commemorate Holodomor

Members of Saskatchewan's Ukrainian community are gathering today at the Legislative Building for a special commemoration service.

Deputy Premier Ken Krawetz will lead the service for Holodomor, the forced mass starvation of people in Ukraine in the 1930s.

Last year, a statue called "Bitter Memory of Childhood" by Petro Drozdowsky was unveiled at the provincial legislature to raise awareness of the Holodomor.

Imposed by Soviet dictator Joseph Stalin, an estimated seven to ten million people died of starvation.
