Supporters of The Lighthouse take to Saskatoon's downtown streets

People who support the downtown shelter say as long as the situation remains the same, they will keep pressure on the provincial government.

Dozens of people marched through Saskatoon's downtown Saturday in support of The Lighthouse.

A few weeks ago, the provincial government announced it would not provide any new funding to the shelter's stabilization unit because only five people in the program had been able to access stable housing.

Lighthouse officials say those changesamountto a $700,000 cut.

That prompted people like Peter Garden to want to do something.

"We got together for the purpose of planning some kind of action in response to these cuts, and so one of the actions that's come out is this rally and march," he said.

Along with the protest, an online petition was launched. Garden said it's already gathered nearly 1,000 signatures.

Garden said as long as the situation remains the same, supporters of the shelter intend to keep the pressure on the provincial government.
