Man in wheelchair violently attacked in Saskatoon while exercising dog

The Saskatoon Police Service has charged a man with attempted murder after an alleged attack on a man in a motorized wheelchair early Sunday morning.

Police say they responded to an assault in progress at the corner of Spadina Crescent and 23rd Street at around 7:33 a.m. CST.

A 57-year-old man in a motorized wheelchair was exercising his dog when he was attacked and threatened, according to a police press release.

The victim, who is now in critical condition with several head injuries at Royal University Hospital, "was pulled from his wheelchair and violently assaulted," police said.

The 25-year-old suspect, whom police are not naming, was chased by police on foot until he was caught elsewhere in the downtown area a short time later.

He will appear in Saskatoon Provincial Court Monday morning as the investigation continues.
