A group of Saskatchewan singer-songwriters are fighting cancer with music.

Dean Kush, J.J. Voss and AlexRunions banded together to write an inspiring song, called "Just Watch Me."

Kush and Runions told Saskatoon Morning host Leisha Grebinski the inspiration came from a mutual friend who was going through a long battle with cancer.

"We've all been affected at one point or another so we're all able to pull from those experiences to write this song," Runions said.

The songwriters and performers said their goal in writing the song was to create simple, yet powerful lyrics to express their admiration for people fighting cancer. They hope people draw inspiration and comfort from the tune and are encouraged to inspire and comfort others in need.

"Audience members do come up and tell their stories and feel compelled to tell their stories and that's exactly what music should do and that's what this song does," Runions said.

The group, in partnership with the Canadian Cancer Society, hopes the song raises at least $100,000.

It's encouraging people to visit www.justwatchme.ca to buy the song to support people with cancer and make an additional donation.

Donors are encouraged to use Facebook, Instagram and Twitter to participate in the Just Watch Me Community Challenge Campaign.

The artists and the society said they will throw a party in the community that raises the most money per capita.
