Nearly 4,000 people take part in Saskatchewan Marathon

A mix of international and local runners picked up some hardware at the 39th Saskatchewan Marathon Sunday.

Thousands went for a Sunday morning run in Saskatoon, with some going a bit farther and a lot faster than others.

Teresa Fekensa of Ethiopia and Toronto won the men's marathon (42.2 km)in a time of 2:43:50, and Erin Gardinerof Saskatoon won the women's marathon division for thefifth time, with a time of 3:01:42.

Ruslan Kramariuk of Cherivitsi, Ukraine, won the men's half-marathon (21.1 km) in 1:08:30, a personal best,and the winner of the women's division was Danielle Thiel from Edmonton with a time of 1:23:53.

A total of3,998 peopleparticipated in Saskatchewan Marathon events at Diefenbaker Park, which included the full marathon, half-marathon, 10 km race and5 km race.

Nearly 1,350 of them wereschool-aged children completing the "Marafun." After running aboutfour kilometresaweek forthe past 10 weeks at their schools, they ran thefinal 2.2 km to complete amarathon.
