Saskatoon asking drivers to zip it

The zipper merge is coming to Circle Drive South this weekend.

The zipper merge will be back this weekend

The zipper merge is back.

Drivers in Saskatoon are again being asked to zipper merge.

This time its along Circle Drive South approaching the new bridge overpass in both directions. The zipper merge will be in place on Saturday, June 1. The zipper merge will stay in place at that location until the new bridge opens.

How does it work? Here are city halls instructions for drivers.

As drivers approach the "lane closed ahead" sign and traffic starts to back up, stay in your current lane up to the point of merge. Then take turns in "zipper" fashion with other drivers to safely and smoothly ease into the remaining lane. Drivers in the through lane must take turns merging.

In a news release, the city said "the Zipper Merge eases traffic congestion and reduces collisions."
