City councillors in Saskatoon are getting ready for a second day of budget deliberations.

Yesterday, council voted unanimously in favour of the police service's request for a 4.78 per cent increase, or about $3.8 millionmore than 2015. Most of the increase will be used to hire eight new officers.

Council approved a one-time transfer of $800,000 from the Remai Art Gallery budget to cover an anticipated construction shortfall.

So far, the new spending will mean a four per cent tax hike, unless other savings are found.
