Saskatoon hunters pitch in to help Food Bank

Saskatoon hunters are pitching in to help the Food Bank.

Members of the Saskatoon Wildlife Federation dropped off almost 130 kilograms of freshly-processed wild meat at the Food Bank this morning.

It's the fifth year that the Federation has organized a meat donation.

Deborah Hamp is with the Food Bank.

The organization gets a lot of donations,but she said this meat is especially welcome.

"This particular meat donation is special because it's pure protein that doesn't have fillers or additives," she said.

The meat contributed is typically deer and elk. Robert Freberg is with the Wildlife Federation. He said the group set up a butchering facility so that it could properly package the meat.

He said it's idealfor all sorts of menus.

"It's very easy to cook and manage, you can make soups and stews, chilis and spaghetti sauce, and all sorts of things with it," he said.

Hunters have donated close to 2,000 kilograms since starting with the program in 2010.
