Saskatoon man pleads guilty to child pornography charges

A Saskatoon man has pleaded guilty to child pornography charges.

Justin Gryba pleaded guilty to making and possessing child pornography in a Saskatoon court of Queen's Bench courtroom.

According to courtroom testimony, Gryba videotaped young boys in a swimming pool changeroom. He met his victims while volunteering for Big Brother.

The video files of the boys were found on an encrypted hard drive. It took police 2 years to access the material.

Gryba had been previously charged for child-pornography-related offences in 2012and was sentenced to two years in jail.

Chief Justice Martel Popescul was unnerved after reviewing pornographic images seized from Gryba's computers.

"I don't need to see any more," he said.

The encrypted hard drive had more than 12,000 image files and videos.

Prosecutor Mike Segu saidGryba failed to mention that he made child pornography during any of his sex offender treatment sessions.

Segusaid that Gryba lied, misrepresented and downplayed what he did. The prosecutor said he sought help after he was originally sentenced, without admitting he had done much worse.

In 2013, Gryba pleaded guilty to possessing and sharing child pornography. He received a sentence of two years less a day to be followed bythree years probation.

The crown is asking for a total sentence of five years.
