City of Saskatoon to refund parking tickets and fees issued Monday

Some good news has arrived for people who parked in Saskatoon's downtown core on July 2.

Due to confusion over whether Monday was a statutory holiday, the City of Saskatoon has decided to cancel all parking tickets and payment refunds for that day.

"We recognize that other orders of government identified Monday as a statutory holiday and as a result this caused confusion," read a press release.

Administration noted that parking meters identify when payment is not required, but showed a traditional payment message on Monday. As well, the city issued public service announcements noting that parking would not be free.

The city will automatically cancel any tickets issued on Monday, and will refund payments for any payments made through credit card or the parking app.

Anyone who paid with cash can receive a refund by providing proof of payment (parking receipt or licence plate number) to corporate revenue staff at city hall.

In 2017, the city also reimbursed people for parking tickets on January 2 after similar confusion was raised.
