Names unveiled for new Regina public schools

Three new public joint schools slated to open in 2017 in the Queen City received names on Tuesday.

The Regina Board of Education selected names for three schools among the nine announced by the Saskatchewan government in 2013 that will be built in fast growing communities in the province. Schools will houseboth Catholic and public schools under one roof.

The chosen names are part of a Regina Public Schools' 'Name Your School' campaign which generated hundreds of suggestions.

The new schools will be known as:

• cole Harbour Landing School:New Southwest School (Harbour Landing).
• cole Wascana Plains School:New Southeast School (Greens on Gardiner).
• Plainsview School:New Northwest School (Rosewood Park).

Two of the schools, cole Harbour Landing School and cole Wascana Plains School, will house dual, French and English track programs. The third, Plainsview School, will feature an English program.

In January, the names ofthe three Catholic schools, which are connected to the public schools, were released.

The Board of Trustees reviewed 128 submissions before approving the following:

• St. Elizabeth: located in Greens on Gardiner in southeast Regina.
• St. Kateri Tekakwitha: located in Harbour Landing.
• St. Nicholas: located in Skywood.
