Order of Canada appointees announced

The Governor General announced 81 appointments to the Order of Canada Tuesday. Among them were singer Sarah McLachlan and newpaper columnist Jeffrey Simpson.

Gov. Gen. Adrienne Clarkson will present the honours at an investiture at Rideau Hall. Though no date has been set for the ceremony, the appointments were effective Oct. 21.

The Order of Canada honours people who have made a difference to Canada. Four thousand people have received the order since 1967.

The three levels of the Order of Canada are companion, officer and member.

The new appointments to the Order of Canada are:
