Accidents, injuries plague Sudbury ATV riders

Accidents involving All Terrain Vehicles resulted in three calls for help and injuries for three people over the weekend, according to Greater Sudbury Police.

Accidents involving All Terrain Vehicles resulted in three calls for help and injuries for three people over the weekend, according to Greater Sudbury Police.

Officers responded to a call on Satuday in Dowling just before 10 a.m. that a 39-year-old lost control of his ATV and it rolled over on top of him. The man suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

Also on Saturday, a 70-year-old man in Hanmer lost control of an ATV and ended up underneath it with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.

And, just before 4 p.m. on Sunday, there was another crash in Hanmer. In that instance, a 29-year-old man drove an ATV into the side of a truck at a stop-sign. No injuries were reported.

The man now faces charges, including careless driving, drive while under suspension, and fail to surrender driver's License under the Highway Traffic Act, as well as charges of no insurance and no license plate under the Off Road Vehicles Act.
