And action! A showcase of films on making Sudbury more livable

The Coalition for a Liveable Sudbury gave people nine months to submit videos of what they value about the city along with ways it could be made better.

A grass-roots group in Sudbury is showcasing ways to make the city more livable.

The Coalition for a Liveable Sudbury gave people nine months to submit videos of what they value about the city along with ways it could be made better.

The group also worked with local filmmakers to interview people from different walks of life about their experiences living in the city, spokesperson Naomi Grant said.

People chose to highlight a number of different things about the city.

"All sorts of different ways of looking at the community and what's important to them," she said. "It's really about the connection they feel being connected to the community and having the quality of life that they want."

One of the films highlights the challenges for pedestrians on one of Sudbury's main streets:

The Coalition for a LiveableSudburywill hold a screening event for the videos this weekend.

It falls in the final days of the municipal election campaign, butGrant said politics isn't the main point of the discussion.

"It's part of who we are as a community, where we want to go and that is really relevant to the municipal election. But I think that's a conversation that is valuable at anytime."

"Things happen at a political level and things happen at a community level and both are valuable."

The films will be screened Saturday night at the Fromagerie Elgin in Sudbury's downtown starting at 6:30 p.m.
