Cambrian Heights developments hopes to ease housing logjam

Two housing developments in the Cambrian Heights area have been approved by the Sudbury's planning committee, which councillors hope will ease the current waiting times for residents.

Councillor Robert Kirwan, who represents the area, said that seniors in Sudbury often wait more than three years for affordable one-bedroom units, and that there are about a thousandother families waiting for low-cost housing.

"This is a real good new complex and development, and I think it's going to do an awful lot for not only that part of the city, but for older adult accommodation in general," Kirwan said.

The city's social housing agency, the Greater Sudbury Housing Corporation, is planning to build an eight-storey, 60-unit building on Bruce Avenue.

The second project is a 30-unit row housing development on Cambrian Heights Drive being proposed by Racicot Holdings and a numbered company.

Both of the developments conform to city's long-term housing and development plan, said Councillor Al Sizer.

"Since my brief time here on the planning committee, I think this is probably one of the most wholesome or fulsome reports that we've received as far as meeting all the criteria required in our official plan regarding intensification and with Sudbury housing, etcetera," Sizer said.
