Cliffs Resources delays Ring of Fire project

Cliffs Natural Resources says its mining project in the Ring of Fire is being delayed until 2016.

The original target date for the mine and smelter to be operational was 2015.

A spokesperson with the company said it took longer to choose the site of the ferrochrome smelter than expected, due to discussions with the government about hydro rates.

That smelter will be located near Capreol, north of Sudbury.

The project is currently in the feasibility stage and will continue be until 2013 or 2014.
