Detour Gold heads to court in connection with 2015 death of Denis Millette, 52

On June 3, 2015, OPP said52-year-old Denis Millette of Matheson was fixing some equipment at the mine. He went into medical distress, and was seen by on-site medical staff.

Despite that help, Millettedied, and Ontario Provincial Police said in April thatthe cause was acute cyanide intoxication.

Detour Gold is charged with criminal negligence causing death, and the police investigation remains open.

The June 2015 death of 52-year-old Denis Millette, who was working at a Detour Gold mine near Cochrane, was caused by acute cyanide intoxication. A few weeks following the incident, the Ministry of Labour ordered Detour Gold to ensure first aid responders received adequate training and to install oxygen kits in high-visibility areas.
