Elgin Street road work continues after construction fatality

Ontario's Ministry of Labour has confirmed with CBC News that all orders from the Ministry have been met by the construction company Interpaving and that work has resumed on Elgin Street.

A 58-year-old woman was struck and killed by a construction grader as she tried to cross through the construction area last week.

The ministry issued several stop-work orders to Interpaving, including the installation of fences between the site and pedestrian walkways, and to take traffic control measures to protect workers from vehicle traffic, develop a traffic control plan to provide for pedestrian safety, and provide a signaller for all machine operators.

Interpaving plans to start laying asphalt today.

According to a city statement, paid duty officers will control traffic and pedestrian crossings during paving operations.
