A medical clinic that helps people in northeastern Ontario who are living with HIV and AIDS is celebrating 20 years of service.

Haven was set up at four of the hospital sites in Sudbury back in 1992.

Linda Mansfield-Smith has worked as a social worker with the program since the beginning.

She shared the story of Haven with CBC Morning North host Markus Schwabethis morning.

Mansfield-Smith said she's seen significant advancements in medications and services over the years.

"There are a number of people who, when I first sat down in the chair at Haven, had come home to die, if you will, and I am happy to say I still get to talk with them on a regular basis," she said.

The Haven program in Sudbury has helped more than 800 people. It currently has more than 200 clients.
