Ministry removes ice huts from Lake Nipissing following investigation

The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry has seized six ice huts from Lake Nipissing near North Bay, Ont., as part of an investigation.

Ice hut rental company was at the centre of controversy earlier this month due to an ad it posted on Kijij

A Kijiji ad posted by the company Ice Hut Rentals stated status card users are not welcome.

The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry has seized six ice huts from Lake Nipissingnear North Bay, Ont., as part of an investigation.

One person has been chargedwith placing a fishing hut on ice without displaying aprescribed number, which iscontrary theFish and Wildlife Conservation Act, according to ministry spokespersonJolantaKowalski.

The owner of Icehutsrentals.ca, MarcHyndman, told CBC News that some of his huts were taken by the government agency.However, hesaid he is continuing to operate his business on Lake Nipissing.

Ice Hut Rentalswas at the centre of controversy earlier this month after it posted an ad on Kijiji.

Many called the advertisement racist since it specified that "no status card users"would be welcome.

An apologyhas since been posted on the company'sFacebook page.
