This Sunday will be a very different service for the parishioners of the Trinity United Church in Lively.

They're going to bless 183 scarves and then descend on downtown Sudbury to tie them on benches, parking meters, lampposts and benches.

"We're all going to take armfuls of scarves," said Rev. Kathy Dahmer."I'm just picturing this blitz of colour.Sort of like we're wrapping the town in gifts."

The scarves have been in production since May, when Trinity parishioner Sue Leblancput out the call for knitters, after hearing of churches in southern Ontario doing something similar.

Word spread and people who were not even associated with the church started dropping off scarves, until Leblanc had far more than she expected.

"I know it's not going to solve any huge problems for people who live on the street, but it's a gesture," she said.

"We're thinking about you. We care about you. We know you're there. You're not invisible."
